First Step: Backup your current configuration settings and download original firmware just encase things go south!

(most likely wont if you follow the instructions) Firmware from Netgear Second Step: Download the following BIN file. Releases/dd-wrt.v24 beta/2007 - 0516/&download=dd-wrt.v24minigeneric.bin Copy this file to your C: root directory. Third Step: Once you are all backed up reset you Netgear router to factory default settings by means of the GUI interface administration panel. Forth Step: Once the factory reset is complete change your LAN IP address to: 192.168.1.

    Password

2 - 254 any number in this range. Subnet: 255.255.255.0 and Gateway: 192.168.1.1 Fifth Step: Open command prompt and type: tftp -i 192.168.1.1 put c: dd-wrt.v24minigeneric.bin DO NOT HIT ENTER YET! This Final step you must do fast, Seventh Step: Unplug the power to your Netgear router wait about 5 seconds then plug the power back in, Quickly now hit the enter key to the command typed out in the DOS window.

If you did this fast enough you will see your Netgear lights start blinking quickly. Then after about 15 – 20 seconds the command will say it was complete. The router will take about 1-2 minutes to initialize the new firmware and slowly the correct color lights for each port and service will turn is correct online status state. You should now be able to go to the getaway 192.168.1.1 and customize your new router with your new interface!

The user name is: root The password is: admin Enjoy! Let me know if you get disconnected from the internet every 5 mins or so. I usually lose my WAN ip. Also if you unplug your router it will brick on you meaning that the power button will flash amber/green and you cannot do anythign to it but tfp a file to it.

Oh ok ill monitor and see if that happens for me as well. I did it last nite so when I get home I will see if I have those symptoms. Yeah I have the same issues, is there any work around for this or not really? How can I put back the origianl firmware if I cannot work around it?

You can press the reset button so the router is in flash mode and tftp the orginal firmware back to the router like you were flashing the dd-wrt firmware to it. What would happen if I plugged it into my existing router and turned off WAN and DHCP, would it still drop every 5 mins? Finally (most important), does the router support WDS when flashed to dd-wrt? Leave it on for like 5 mins than unplug the power and you'll see.

I also have a linksys wrt350n with dd-wrt but i cant get it to connect in n mode, however the netgear does, so I am using that, with stock firmware, updated. I've got an issue with my Netgear firmware (v1.0.3.

Where it looks like it's connected to my ISP but I need to hit the 'Test' button to cycle the connection and only then do I actually get past the DNS and start connecting to sites/servers, receiving email, etc. If DD-wrt can solve this problem, then I'll happily flash but not until the 5 minute issue is fixed. I went over and tweaked it and eventually got it running fairly well, being the expert that I am heh. My original suspicion was that the router was holding onto old connections for far too long.

Make sure you set TCP and UDP timeouts to 60 or 90 seconds. Can you unplug the power from the router and tell me if it still work? Also what version of the firmware did you use? If I get this router and put this firmware on it, does that mean I will have 'n' speeds on the bridge?

It drops the WAN ever 2- mins or so needeing a physical reboot to get it again. If you want to play around you could schedule a reboot cycle every 2 mins or so that way if it loses the WAN IP it will automatically get it again without you having to unplug the power cord. Im sure there is a firmware that will work with the WNR834b its just that there are so many to try but the risk is higher for bricking your router.

However, I am not using it as a router, just a WAP and Bridge. Does DD-WRT support N or only B and G?

Will DD-WRT add support for N if it does not currently. I am hoping for a higher-speed wireless bridge, which needs 2 units of course. Goto page 1, Display posts from previous: Page 1 of 6 - All times are GMT Navigation.
